Counter-IED Project

There are a host of agencies, contractors and interested parties attempting to reduce the casualties caused by IED's (improvised explosive devices) and IIED's (improved improvised explosive devices). Nonetheless, as Anthony Cordesman's studies for the Center for Strategic and International Studies show, IED casualties continue to rise, particularly after the British withdrawal from Iraq and the official handover of Basra in April of 2009, opening the "Basra Pipeline" for Iranian sponsored high-technology components and explosives used in IIED's against U.S. and Allied forces.
